Project brief & Feasibility Study

Your Idea

We will work with you to understand your project objectives, including part requirements, key mechanical and structural performance objectives, target unit cost, production rate plan, and timelines. Not sure how to convert your current design to thermoplastic composites? Don’t worry, we will work closely with you to ensure your part can be produced with our materials and processes to your standards.

Material Selection

Re:Build Oribi’s manufacturing processes are material agnostic. We can produce parts with resin systems ranging from commodity plastics (e.g. infrastructure/industrial products) all the way up to high-performance engineering plastics (e.g. aerospace products). We also work with a variety of fiber types, including carbon, glass, and self-reinforced materials. Our breadth of experience helps us identify the best materials for your application that meet your performance and cost requirements.

Proof of Concept Evaluation

We start every program with a well-developed proof of concept and component qualification plan. We work in partnership with our customers to prototype, test, and qualify parts to validate component design and optimize performance before transitioning to full-rate production.

Production

Following prototyping, testing, and qualification, we transition to full-scale manufacturing to meet your production rate demands. Our practical approach to production scale-up leverages automation and robotics, enabling us to meet very aggressive production rate volumes and timelines in a matter of weeks for most programs.

All production takes place within our U.S.-based 50,000 sq. ft facility, from part layup through forming, trimming, finishing, and final inspection. We also offer our customers assembly services internally, or through our partner companies within Re:Build Manufacturing.

Advanced Digital Solutions

Our state-of-the-art digital technology capabilities set us apart in the industry. Our advanced systems ensure precision, efficiency, and quality at every stage of production. Our digitization efforts apply to all thermoplastic polymer families. Re:Build Oribi has almost two decades of experience converting the most challenging high-temperature polymers (PEKK, PEEK, PEI) along with known industrial material systems such as polypropylene and nylon. This unique capability sets us apart from others and allows us to meet your requirements no matter how challenging your performance parameters are or how cost-sensitive your application is.

Process Control and Monitoring

Our digital technology allows for precise control of forming temperatures and pressures, ensuring optimal conditions for material performance. Our focus on process controls helps maintain the tight tolerances our customers require and ensure high quality across all production runs.

Proactive Design Adjustments

With our sophisticated digital tools, we can tweak layups and tool designs before they become costly errors. This proactive approach allows us to help our customers optimize their designs within 2-weeks of engagement, ensuring that any potential issues are addressed before they impact customers’ development milestones, saving valuable time and resources.

Empowering Our People

We empower our people to use digital technology, bringing real-time analytics to the shop floor as they develop processes and produce parts while continuously improving. This enables Oribi to leverage its many years of Thermoplastic Composites expertise, overcoming the difficulties involved in producing large format and extremely complex parts with high confidence.

An infrared camera detects the surface temperature of a laminate before farming, enabling process control to ensure optimal temperature.

Digital simulations display predicted formed part surface with geometric error to design, informing customers of manufacturability and guiding engineers making any tweaks to layup or tool design.

An Re:Build Oribi operator monitors oven performance, checking critical process input parameters and infrared camera pictures.

Serialized layups enable Oribi to tightly monitor its production process, ensuring processes can robustly handle material variation common to thermoplastic composites.
